Is there a more timely parable?  The intent of The Lamp, the Oil and the Flame is to encourage a love of learning.  

Like all parables it contains a lesson the reader is required to extract in order to understand the full meaning. This is all part of the fun of reading anything as carefully crafted as the parable.
