This is the oil pressed
This the fruit harvested
This is the light received
This the way for our feet.
The Lamp, the Oil and the Flame is a retelling of the Parable of the Ten Virgins (Mat 25), otherwise known as The Ten Bridesmaids.
Originally told by Jesus, the parable was provoked by a question.
The story is constructed to contain a lesson. The teacher constructs an analogy between knowledge and ignorance, light and dark. His intent is to inspire the reader to value knowedge, to listen to instruction, to read, and to read more. Or, in the language of the parable: to fill up with oil.
Where do we find this oil? From those who sell it, naturally.
At The Department of Art and Construction we like to think of ourselves as text pressers. This is our work. We hope you enjoy The Lamp, the Oil and the Flame, that it sparks conversation and provides food for thought. This we think is the ultimate goal of the scribe or illustrator, that their work be food for thought.
We hope the bright artwork and retelling of this parable will be a light to your feet - as it's original telling intended.
